Blogging is a big commitment, and if you’re still new at blogging, you may be wondering how often you should post a blog post or why it is important to post to a blog regularly.

There are four main reasons why you should often post on your blog.

In this guide, we’ll explore the reasons and provide information on blogging updates too.

Google And Readers Love Fresh Content

Google loves fresh content, so publishing new blog posts or updating old posts is essential.

After all, nobody likes to go to a website with no fresh content. The reader may think everything is outdated too.

When you post to a blog regularly, you’re showing Google, and your readers that your brand is alive and your content is updated.

It’s The Best Way To Increase Your Blog Traffic

Posting on a blog regularly means you’ll have more opportunities to grow your traffic. It’s simple: more blog posts = more keyword opportunities = more readers (as long as you can rank on Google, of course).

That said, you’ll have more chances to be featured in Google Discover too. If you’re posting a blog post about a trendy topic, your post might get picked up on Google Discover, resulting in hundreds or thousands of visitors.

When you create more blog posts, you can add more internal links and keep your visitors longer on your website. As a result, you’ll get more pageviews too.

It Can Help Grow Your Blog Revenue

You get more opportunities to grow your revenue when you post regularly – whether you’re after new leads, affiliate sales, or ad impressions.

It’s the same concept as the blog traffic; more blog posts = more readers = more opportunities to make money blogging.

To grow your blog revenue, we recommend the following steps:

  1. Conduct keyword research before writing a blog post (will you monetize with affiliates, ads, or try to capture new leads?)
  2. Target different stages of your sales funnel

It Keeps Your Readers Coming Back

You can promote your new blog posts in your newsletter or social media channels. When you post on your blog often, you’ll have more blog posts to promote, and your readers can come back for more.

If you don’t post often, your readers might forget about your blog, and you could lose traffic over time.

Why Are Blog Posts Important?

Blog posts are keyword opportunities. I know I love talking about keywords – but keywords are the things that will get people on your website.

Let’s take an example. Someone needs help with blogging, and write down a blogging question in Google. After looking at the results on Google, he clicks on my website. He should get an answer to his question by reading the blog post.

Without the blog post, I would not have this visitor.

And what’s the point of having a website if you don’t get any visitors?

Over time, a blog will have a great collection of blog posts. More visitors will go to the website, and as a result, you’ll get more leads and more money.

How To Blog Regularly

Blogging regularly doesn’t come naturally for everyone. It’s a lot of work. While some people can write fast, others take hours or days.

After several years of blogging, I developed an efficient system to blog often and regularly.

I’m using two tools to help me blog more often:

  1. Trello
  2. Asana

I use Trello to create a blog editorial calendar. You can read my guide to learn how to use Trello to create a content calendar.

I use Asana to organize all my tasks. As blogging isn’t just about writing content, I need to stay organized, and Asana helps me stay on top of things.

In short, here’s how I managed to post more often on my blogs:

  1. I batch my keyword research and create a list of keywords to target in the future. On the list, I can see the keyword’s search volume and competitiveness.
  2. When I’m ready to write the content, I go back to the keyword tool to find more relevant keywords and write down the blog post outline.
  3. While I outsource some content, I still write a lot of it. I usually write “How-to-guides” because it’s my favorite type of content. When writing blog posts, I make sure I’m up for the task and write in the morning when my productivity is at its best.
  4. Depending on the blog post, it takes me around 1-2 hours to write and publish.

Blogging Updates

If you don’t have time to write more blog posts, you should not underestimate the power of updating old blog posts. It’s a great alternative! In fact, it’s an essential blogging task many bloggers hate doing.

A blog update is basically optimizing an old blog post. To update a piece of content, I usually go to Google Search Console and look for new keyword opportunities. I add relevant internal links, and I check the competitors to see if I can make my content better.

I usually try to update blog posts that are at least 6-month old. It’s a great way to keep content fresh and up to date.

How Often To Update A Blog

Wondering how often you should update a blog post? Everyone has a different system because it depends on your niche and how many blog posts you have.

I tend to keep an eye on my top blog posts to make sure they are regularly updated. That said, I also have a blog optimization tracker that helps me figure out which piece of content to update next.

Blog optimization tracker

For example, in the first quarter of the year, I optimize the content from the previous year’s first quarter.

If you’re in a niche that often changes (the travel niche, for example), you may need to update your blog posts more often.

Final Thoughts On Blogging Regularly

Blogging regularly is crucial if you want to make money blogging. If blogging is a hobby for you, you won’t have to blog often.

As I run multiple websites, I have different blogging strategies for each one. For example, I publish 20-40 blog posts per month on my main website. And I publish 4 blog posts per year on smaller websites.

I prefer to focus on the websites that make money already, but I still allocate time to my smaller websites.
