It’s no secret, Pinterest is an amazing source of traffic for bloggers. Pinterest has been my #2 source of traffic for several years now (the first one is still SEO).
In this post, I’ll explain why you should use Pinterest to generate more traffic to your blog, and I’ll show you how to find keywords for Pinterest using tools and/or Keysearch.
But first, if you’re new to Pinterest, let’s see why you should use it to get more traffic to your blog.
How To Use Pinterest To Get More Traffic
Pinterest is a visual search engine. Pinterest users scroll their home feed which is curated according to their interests.
When a user creates an account, they select their interests to create their feed. Users can also use the search bar to find ideas and inspiration for a specific topic.
For example, if the user is looking for cupcake recipes, he’ll add the keyword in the search bar, and then he’ll see pins as results.
He’ll see titles, and he can click on a result. Then, after reading the pin description, he’ll decide to click the link or not.
When you’re a blogger, your pins are opportunities to get more traffic.
You can create vertical images for your blog posts and upload them to your Pinterest boards.
By adding keywords and making sure your Pinterest SEO game is on point, you’ll get clicks on your website.
Now, you should know that most lifestyle niches work perfectly with Pinterest. Think of craft, food, travel, DIY, decoration, etc.
How To Find Keywords For Pinterest
As I mentioned above, in order to get traffic to your blog, you’ll need images and keywords.
To create images, I’d suggest you sign up for Canva Pro.
Canva Pro is an incredible tool to create pins and vertical images. If you’re not quite the designer, you’ll be happy to know that they have premade templates.
Alternatively, you can buy Canva templates for Pinterest.
To find Pinterest keywords, you can either use the free Pinterest tools or use a keyword tool like Keysearch.
Let’s look at your options.
How to Find Pinterest Keywords with the Search Bar
The first Pinterest keyword tool you can use is the search bar.
You can start by entering your main keyword. I’d suggest you keep it generic at first. As you write down your keyword, you’ll see suggestions appear.
These are all popular and related searches.
Once you entered your keyword and hit Enter, you’ll see results appearing. At the top of the results, you may see colored tiles. When these tiles appear, it means two things:
- It’s a popular topic.
- You just found several long-tail keywords for your main keyword.
By clicking on one tile, you’ll see new results appear. You’ll see the search bar will have a new keyword too. You can repeat the process multiple times.
On the other hand, if you don’t see any tiles, it means the keyword is not popular, and this means the volumes are probably low.
I’d recommend you focus on keywords that have higher volumes.
You can write them down in a document or a spreadsheet or repeat the process every time you upload a new pin on Pinterest to find keywords to target.
If you’re looking for more keyword ideas, you could also use your primary keyword and use the ABC method.
For example, if your topic is Food, add an A.
Then, a B. Then, a C. And so on.
This method helps you come up with more ideas that you can use for new pins or for new blog posts.
PSSST. Some Pinterest users have been reporting that the colored tiles are not showing. It could be caused by your location. Use a different Pinterest location to access it such as Pinterest.co.uk or Pinterest.ca. If this still doesn’t work, scroll down the feed and look at the related searches. You’ll find tiles there.
How To Find Pinterest Keywords With Pinterest Trends
To access Pinterest trends, you must register for a business account. It’s an easy process, so I’d recommend you do it so you can have access to analytics, and Pinterest trends.
To access the tool, head to Analytics > Trends.
You’ll see a search bar and three options for locations. I usually opt for the United States, but you can also select Canada or the United Kingdom.
When you enter a search term and hit enter, you’ll see the number of searches for the chosen location per week.
It’s a great way to see how trendy a topic is. You’ll find related terms under the graph. By selecting one, you’ll see a second line appear in your graph to compare both keywords.
Another way to find keyword ideas is to head back to the Pinterest Trends main page and click on Pinterest Predicts at the bottom of the page. Alternatively, you can take a look at the week’s top Pinterest Trends.
How To Find Pinterest Keywords With Keysearch
Finally, another way to find Pinterest keywords is with Keysearch.
If you know me, you know how I love Keysearch to find keywords. I recently noticed they also have the option to find keywords specifically for Pinterest.
Enter your main keyword, select all locations and then click on the dropdown menu to select Pinterest Suggest. You’ll find suggestions for Pinterest keywords.
I’m not sure how accurate the search volumes are, but it’s a great way to get all the keywords suggestions without having to type and click manually via the Pinterest tool.
How to Check Pinterest Keyword Search Volume
When doing any keyword research, we always need to look at the search volumes. The idea here is to pick high-volume, low-competition keywords.
With Pinterest, it’s hard to judge the competitiveness of a keyword, but by looking at the pins and current results, you can beat the competition by writing compelling titles and creating beautiful images.
That said, it’s still important to know if your keyword has an attractive search volume.
The best way to get the exact search volume is by using Pinterest trends. The graph will show you the weekly volume for the keyword chosen.
Alternatively, you can use Keysearch to see the monthly volume.
Where To Add Keywords In Pinterest
Once you have found the keywords you wish to target for your Pin, you should add your keywords in the following elements:
- Image file name
- Pin title
- Blog post URL
- Pinterest description
- Relevant Hashtags within your Pinterest description (2 hashtags should be enough)
You can also optimize your Pinterest profile and boards by adding your niche-related keywords in the following elements:
- Board title
- Board description
- Profile description
The great news is that you can also go back and optimize old pins, and old boards. You need to click on Edit to make changes.
Best Pinterest Practices
Like Google, Pinterest changes its algorithm and best practices regularly. Lately, Pinterest has been saying that fresh content is the new trendy thing to do. Let’s take a look at the best Pinterest practices.
- Fresh content: Pinterest wants you to create new images. That said, when publishing a new blog post, make sure to create between 10-20 images. This means you can also create more pins for your popular blog posts. You can upload your images directly to Pinterest. Create different variations of titles, use new images – keep it fresh!
- Engagement: While Pinterest is a search engine, it also works with engagement. The more users click on your pins or save them, the higher your pin will rank. To get a pin boost, I’d suggest signing up for Tailwind. You’ll be able to schedule pins to relevant boards and participate in Tailwind Tribes. As a result, you’ll get more engagement. (PSST. Tailwind offers a free plan too.)
- Frequency: Pinterest doesn’t want you to spam your followers with duplicate pins. That said, you can repin a pin a few times in the relevant boards, but schedule them so you’re not spamming your followers. Tailwind helps you follow Pinterest guidelines with the SmartGuide feature.
Final Thoughts On Pinterest Keyword Tools
Pinterest is an excellent source of traffic for blogs. I’d suggest you get into it as soon as possible. Like SEO, Pinterest requires patience. You’ll have to wait months before your Pinterest efforts pay off – especially if your Pinterest account is brand new.
Mixing Pinterest and SEO strategies is the perfect way to generate more traffic to your blog.
As a busy blogger, I outsource some Pinterest tasks to a virtual assistant. I prefer to focus my energy on creating new blog posts and SEO.
So, if you don’t have enough time to work on your Pinterest strategies, you could consider hiring a Pinterest virtual assistant or a Pinterest agency.
Alternatively, make sure to implement the latest best Pinterest strategies. I’d recommend joining an online course like Passive Profit With Pinterest to learn how to increase your traffic and your sales. I personally joined the course in early 2022 to keep up with the latest Pinterest trends. Read my Passive Profit With Pinterest review.
