I share my blog income reports as part of a blog income series. If you want to learn more about the strategies and investments I made in 2021, you can read our blog income report for 2021.

This year, I changed up my strategy after a lot of testing last year. While I’m still testing new strategies, I’m investing most of my money into one thing. Keep reading to learn more!

This blog income report will summarize my revenue sources and expenses for September 2022.

There are two essential things to note before we start:

  1. Most partners pay 1-3 months later. When I’m calculating my revenue, I only count what has been paid during that month. That said, the revenue found here may result from sales or income from the last few months. I’m counting my revenue this way because sometimes, a sale can be canceled, which will not be paid.
  2. I own several websites, but a big part of my income comes from SEO services. This income allows me to invest more in my blogs for higher returns.

I currently own 8 websites:

  • Gold project: Main website in the travel niche
  • Silver project: This website (Nomad Life 101) in the travel and lifestyle niche
  • Bronze project: A French website in a specific niche within the travel niche (ha!)
  • Pink project: A multilingual website about a specific destination
  • Yellow project: A lifestyle blog in a low-competition niche
  • Turquoise project: A new lifestyle blog started with my partner in a low-competition niche

Blog Income Report September 2022

In this section, I will discuss each project and discuss the income sources and expenses for September 2022.

Note that some of my income comes from SEO services, which won’t be included in this income report, so that I can focus on blog income only. As I mentioned in the introduction, you’ll only find the income that has been paid during September because most partners pay 1-3 months later.

Gold Project

Travel niche – Website launched in 2015

This blog is monetized in 4 different ways:

  • Sponsors: $3,039.95
  • Affiliate marketing: $4,930.85
  • Ad display: $4,430.41
  • Digital products: $0

For a total of $12,401.21

Now that many destinations have reopened, the pandemic doesn’t impact my website as much as in 2020 and 2021. My traffic is quickly going back up. In fact, September 2022 was solid traffic-wise. To give you an idea, it was at 146,000 monthly pageviews in August, and in September, it was at 145,000. Obviously, summer is over, and in the travel niche, this means a bit less travel for some!

We published 40 blog posts on this website in September.

Silver Project

Travel and lifestyle niche – Website launched in 2017

This website is monetized in 4 different ways:

  • Sponsors: $504.10
  • Affiliate marketing: $0
  • Ad display: $222.61
  • Digital products: $0

For a total of $726.71

I joined Monumetric at the end of 2021. It doesn’t pay as well as Mediavine, but still, money is money. We published a total of 10 blog posts on this website in September.

Now, why $0 for affiliate marketing? Well, some programs don’t allow me to track individual sites from several websites, so it might have gone under my travel website. I know for a fact that there was some revenue from Amazon, but I don’t track them separately because that’s too much work. I do track it when I calculate my affiliate revenue at the end of each month, but when it’s paid out, I don’t always split them all. But, there are some exception to this, like the project below.

Bronze Project

French website in a specific travel niche – Website launched in 2019

This website makes all its revenue with Amazon. It made only $110.14 in September 2022. The niche is very seasonal, so it varies from month to month.

Note that no new blog posts have been published since 2020. The plan is to sell this website eventually. That said, in April, I decided to go through all the blog posts to optimize them for quick wins. But I haven’t touched it since.

Pink Project

Multilingual website about a specific destination – Website launched in 2019

This website has been growing in traffic, but it finally made money! It made $91.33 with GetYourGuide.

In September, we didn’t publish anything on this website.

The plan is to sell this website eventually. The traffic is growing steadily, so I’m hoping to join Monumetric with this website by the end of the year.

Yellow Project

Lifestyle website about a low-competition niche – Website launched in 2020

This blog doesn’t generate income yet. The domain authority of this website is only 8, which means that the website isn’t ranking well yet.

We published 2 blog posts on this website in September. Our goal is to publish more content on it in the upcoming months.

Turquoise Project

Website owned with my partner about a low-competition niche – Website launched in August 2021

This blog doesn’t generate income yet. Again, this website is relatively new and currently has about 30-40 blog posts. The domain authority recently increased to 6, which is relatively low.

No work was done on this website in September.

Blue Project

Brand new website in a low-competition niche – Website launched in September 2022.

This blog doesn’t generate income yet. Again, this website is brand new and currently has 6 posts. The domain authority is at 1, which is the usual starting point.

Blog Investments And Expenses

As my previous blog income report mentioned, I invest primarily in content creation.

Since July, I have reduced my investment dramatically compared to the year’s first half. I’ve explained why in the past blog report income.

Here’s the list of blogging expenses I had in September 2022:

  • Tools and subscriptions: $286.63
  • Domain and hosting: 640.32
  • Content creation: $1003.79
  • Web story services: $411.56
  • Accounting (including Companio): $45.68
  • Blog management: $590.30
  • Virtual assistance: $860.87

For a total of $3,839.05

Leaving me with a net income of $9,490.34 in September.

Now, if you’re wondering what tools and subscription I had to pay in September, let me tell you!

I renewed NordVPN, and I subscribed to Divi Supreme to create some fun functions for the brand-new website.

Now, let’s see what I learned in September 2022.

What I’ve Learned

Last year, I realized that the best investment for bloggers is content creation. As I now have ads on two blogs, the more content I have, the more money I make with ads.

But that doesn’t stop there.

More traffic = more income revenue + more affiliate sales

If you’re new to blogging, you might have heard that SEO is essential, but you don’t know where to start…

Learning about SEO can be overwhelming because there’s so much information available online. It’s hard to know which tips are outdated and which ones will actually help your website rank higher on search engine results pages (SERPs).

SEO From Scratch is an online course that takes the guesswork out of learning about SEO. Our course is designed for bloggers who want to learn how to increase their traffic from search engines without spending much money on consultants or agencies.

I believe SEO makes a big difference in my income. For example, we published many blog posts in 2022, and I used SEO at every step.

  • Keyword research before writing a blog post
  • Writing optimized content with the latest SEO strategies in mind
  • Indexing the content on Google Search Console
  • Optimize old pieces of content every week
  • Etc.

I tend to “do more of what works”. So, at the beginning of each month, I analyze the top affiliate and top posts and identify some patterns to try to replicate their success.

Content creation always wins. As a result, I have decided to stop Facebook marketing and Pinterest marketing to focus on creating more content.

That said, now that I have launched a new website, I need to hire again. So, if you wish to join our team to create content or to work on SEO, get in touch with me!

Final Thoughts

And there you go, you have it – my blog income report for September 2022.

I’m confident that my current strategies work because I can see an increase in my blog traffic, ad revenue, and affiliate marketing.
