I share my blog income reports as part of a blog income series. If you want to learn more about the strategies and investments I made in 2021, you can read our blog income report for 2021.

This year, I changed up my strategy after a lot of testing last year. While I’m still testing new strategies, I’m investing most of my money into one thing. Keep reading to learn more!

This blog income report will summarize my revenue sources and expenses for July 2022.

There are two essential things to note before we start:

  1. Most partners pay 1-3 months later. When I’m calculating my revenue, I only count what has been paid during that month. That said, the revenue found here may result from sales or income from the last few months. I’m counting my revenue this way because sometimes, a sale can be canceled, which will not be paid.
  2. I own several websites, but most of my income comes from SEO services. This income allows me to invest more in my blogs for higher returns.

Website Portfolio

I currently own 7 websites:

  • Gold project: Main website in the travel niche
  • Silver project: This website (Nomad Life 101) in the travel and lifestyle niche
  • Bronze project: A French website in a specific niche within the travel niche (ha!)
  • Pink project: A multilingual website about a specific destination
  • Yellow project: A lifestyle blog in a low-competition niche
  • Turquoise project: A new lifestyle blog started with my partner in a low-competition niche
  • Gray project: A website that isn’t made for monetization (this one won’t be included in this report)

I sold the “Coral project” in December 2021 – you can read about my experience selling a website on Flippa.

Blog Income Report July 2022

In this section, I will discuss each project and discuss the income sources and expenses for July 2022.

Note that most of my income comes from SEO services, which won’t be included in this income report so that I can focus on blog income only. As I mentioned in the introduction, you’ll only find the income that has been paid during July because most partners pay 1-3 months later.

Gold Project

Travel niche – Website launched in 2015

This blog is monetized in 4 different ways:

  • Sponsors: $2,321.56
  • Affiliate marketing: $3,389.38
  • Ad display: $2,939.57
  • Digital products: $0

For a total of $8,650.51

Now that many destinations have reopened, the pandemic doesn’t impact my website as much as in 2020 and 2021. My traffic is quickly going back up. In fact, July 2022 was my best month traffic-wise. It increased from 122,000 to 131,000 monthly pageviews.

We published 66 blog posts on this website in July.

Silver Project

Travel and lifestyle niche – Website launched in 2017

This website is monetized in 4 different ways:

  • Sponsors: $310.09
  • Affiliate marketing: $120.48
  • Ad display: $158.90
  • Digital products: $0

For a total of $589.47

I joined Monumetric at the end of 2021. It doesn’t pay as well as Mediavine, but still, money is money. We published a total of 9 blog posts on this website in July.

Bronze Project

French website in a specific travel niche – Website launched in 2019

This website makes all its revenue with Amazon. It made only $119.46 in July 2022. The niche is very seasonal, so it varies from month to month.

Note that no new blog posts have been published since 2020. The plan is to sell this website eventually. That said, in April, I decided to go through all the blog posts to optimize them for quick wins.

Pink Project

Multilingual website about a specific destination – Website launched in 2019

This website has been growing in traffic, but it finally made money! I noticed a few affiliate sales in the past few months, and they finally got paid out. It’s not much, but it’s heading in the right direction. It made $41.18 with GetYourGuide.

In July, we published 6 blog posts on this website.

The plan is to sell this website eventually. The traffic is growing steadily, so I’m hoping to join Monumetric with this website by the end of the year.

Yellow Project

Lifestyle website about a low-competition niche – Website launched in 2020

This blog doesn’t generate income yet. The domain authority of this website is only at 7, which means that the website isn’t ranking well yet.

We published 6 blog posts on this website in July. Our goal is to start publishing more content on it in the upcoming months.

Turquoise Project

Website owned with my partner about a low-competition niche – Website launched in August 2021

This blog doesn’t generate income yet. Again, this website is relatively new and currently has about 30-40 blog posts. The domain authority recently dropped to 4, which is relatively low.

We spent a few hours optimizing the content in July. We’ll see if it starts picking up soon.

Blog Investments And Expenses

As my previous blog income report mentioned, I invest primarily in content creation.

But, in July, I reduced my investment dramatically. I’ll explain why further.

Here’s the list of blogging expenses I had in July 2022:

  • Tools and subscriptions: $909.34
  • Hosting: $46.15
  • Content creation: $988.56
  • Web story services: $404.19
  • Accounting (including Companio): $124.79
  • Blog management: $231.07

For a total of $2,774.28

Leaving me with a net income of $6,626.34 in July.

The content creation went down for two main reasons:

  1. I was on holiday, so I took one week off from ordering content for my writers.
  2. My blog manager also had a holiday, so the expenses went down.

So, how did I manage to publish this much content in July?

Remember when I said a couple of months ago that I got a subscription for Jasper? It allows me to write a lot faster, and the results are fantastic so far. If you’re unfamiliar with Jasper, it’s an AI content assistant. Meaning I can give it commands, help me summarize the content, etc.

Jasper helps me create a lot more content, which is why I don’t need my writers as much. Give Jasper a try. It requires a lot of trials and errors until you get the hang of it.

Now, if you’re wondering what tools and subscription I had to pay in July, let me tell you!

I decided to invest in a link-building campaign for the two websites that aren’t making money yet. The goal is to give their domain authority a nudge and hopefully get out of the Google sandbox.

The Google Sandbox is a filter placed on new websites by Google to test their authenticity and quality. It is designed to prevent spam websites from appearing in search engine results. The sandbox is also used to test a website’s popularity before ranking it in Google’s search engine results pages (SERPs).

The Google Sandbox affects all websites that are new to the internet or that have been recently created. This includes websites that have changed their domain name or URLs. The sandbox is also applied to websites that have been inactive for a period of time and then become active again.

Now, let’s see what I’ve learned in July 2022.

What I’ve Learned

Last year, I realized that the best investment for bloggers is content creation. As I now have ads on two blogs, the more content I have, the more money I make with ads.

But that doesn’t stop there.

More traffic = more income revenue + more affiliate sales

If you’re new to blogging, you might have heard that SEO is essential, but you don’t know where to start…

Learning about SEO can be overwhelming because there’s so much information available online. It’s hard to know which tips are outdated and which ones will actually help your website rank higher on search engine results pages (SERPs).

SEO From Scratch is an online course that takes the guesswork out of learning about SEO. Our course is designed for bloggers who want to learn how to increase their traffic from search engines without spending much money on consultants or agencies.

I believe SEO makes a big difference in my income. For example, we published many blog posts in July, and I used SEO at every step.

  • Keyword research before writing a blog post
  • Writing optimized content with the latest SEO strategies in mind
  • Indexing the content on Google Search Console
  • Optimize old pieces of content every week
  • Etc.

Final Thoughts

And there you go, you have it – my blog income report for July 2022.

I’m confident that my current strategies work because I can see an increase in my blog traffic, ad revenue, and affiliate marketing.
