How To Find And Apply For Online Jobs

Most of the jobs mentioned on our list of jobs for moms online can be done part-time or full-time. As a freelancer, you’ll be able to pick the number of clients that suit you, and you can combine different jobs too.

If you want to learn more about freelancing for beginners, or how to land your first client as a freelancer, we have two detailed guides to help you get started.

That said, I’ll sum it up here.

You can find and apply for online jobs in…

  • Freelancing websites like Fiverr or Upwork.
  • Facebook groups that specialize in remote work, virtual assistants, etc.
  • Linkedin
  • Your current network

The hardest part is to land your first client. Once you have one, you could get more referrals.

To get started, I’d suggest you start building a portfolio of what you can do. Surely, you already have skills.

For example, if you enjoy writing, freelance writing or blogging could be a good option for you.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the best online jobs for moms.

Freelance Writing

If you enjoy writing, freelance writing is probably the easiest freelancing job. You can get started with no experience.

Usually, when someone hires a freelance writer, they will test the writer out on one article, and if both parties are happy, the freelancer should get more work.

If you can show that you’re good at researching and that you can write about different topics, it should be easy.

That said, freelance writing and blogging are two jobs that can be easily combined. Having a blog can help you land more freelance writing gigs because you can showcase your work.

This online job for stay at home moms doesn’t require an investment if you already are a good writer. Alternatively, you could do an online course to learn how to write or how to pitch.

Freelance writing is an excellent side hustle for introverts and stay at home moms because you’ll be able to create your own schedule and you don’t need to jump on calls to get work done.

How Much Can A Freelance Writer Make?

Usually, a freelance writer that doesn’t have any experience will start with lower rates. It can be between $20 and 50 for 1000 words. Then, when the writer gets more experience, the rates will obviously go up.

I know writers that charge $300 for 1000 words, but they have a specific niche and have some serious copywriting skills.

You can either charge per word or per piece – the good thing is that you get to set your own rates.

Social Media Marketing

If you love social media and you know marketing basics, becoming a social media marketer could be a great option for you.

You can build a portfolio in which you rewrite social media captions or simply create some from scratch to show what you are capable of.

For example, I’d recommend creating examples of social media captions for your potential clients when pitching yourself. This way, you’d stand out from the competition.

If you don’t know how to use Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest, you could do an online course to get to understand the basics. You could also learn how to use Canva Pro to be able to create social media images.

How Much Can A Social Media Marketer/Manager Make?

This can depend on your experience or the number of hours needed. You could be paid per hour or per package. Usually, you can expect anything from $10 to 30 per hour or you could create different packages.

For example, a social media manager could have packages like this:

  • 10 social media captions for $100
  • 25 social media captions for $225
  • 50 social media captions for $400

This is just an example.

Blogging

Blogging is a great way to make money online, although you should know that this is a long-term game and you can’t expect to make money instantly. In fact, it could take months to monetize a blog.

If you have a lot of time on your hand, it could be a great option for you, but it does require a small investment upfront. You can learn more about the cost of starting a blog here.

Having a blog is an excellent way to showcase what you can do when applying for freelancing jobs. As a blogger, you’ll do lots of tasks – from writing content to SEO, from social media to email marketing. You could use your platforms as a portfolio.

Bloggers will often freelance to support themselves until they are able to monetize their blog.

You’ll need to learn things in order to launch your blog, but you can get started easily with our free mini-course in which we teach you how to launch your blog. You can sign up for it here.

Alternatively, you could apply for blogging jobs for moms (like freelance writing). Some bloggers need help so that could be a great alternative.

How Much Can A Blogger Make?

Depending on the age of the blog, the income could differ. For example, a new blog might make a bit of money here and there, but an established blog could make a few thousand dollars per month.

I know bloggers who make $20,000 per month. I, myself, make between $8000 and $11,000 per month.

Blogging requires strategies and patience. If you have the time and patience for it, it could be an incredible option for you.

Proofreading/Editing

If you are good with writing and grammar, you could become a proofreader/editor. You won’t need a lot of experience, all you need is proof that you can do the job properly. You could build a portfolio in which you proofread or edit content found online.

Many bloggers or writers don’t like to proofread or edit their own content, so it gives you an opportunity.

How Much Can A Proofreader/Editor Make?

Usually, a proofreader or editor is paid per project or word. That said, the more you work, the more you’ll make.

Many freelancers reported that they manage to make a few thousand per month by editing content, but it varies in function of the number of clients you get.

Virtual Assistant

The best job for moms without online experience is virtual assistance. It’s easy to get started, especially if you do an online course to learn how to become an online assistant.

Usually, these courses require an initial investment, but you’ll get to learn all the skills needed to be a great virtual assistant.

A good course for virtual assistants will help you land clients and you’ll be able to build a portfolio in no time.

I always hire virtual assistants who did a course first, so they already know how to use online tools like Canva, social media scheduler, etc.

How Much Can A Virtual Assistant Make?

Depending on the level of experience, a virtual assistant can make anything from $10 to 50 per hour. You can be paid per hour or create a package for your clients.

Email Marketing

If you enjoy writing and marketing, you could specialize in email marketing. Many copywriters or marketers offer email marketing services to their clients.

Niching down to a specific thing like email marketing will help you become an expert and stand out from the competition.

You could do an online course to learn how to use different email software or to get better at copywriting. I personally love the content by Lissa Jackson and I’m sure her webinars are great.

How Much Can An email Marketer Make?

According to Glassdoor, an email marketing specialist can make anything from $40,000 to 60,000 per year. Now, as a freelancer, this could differ depending on your packages or experience.

Copywriting

If you love persuasion and writing, then copywriting is probably a great solution for you. Any great service provider, blogger, social media manager, or email marketer must know about copywriting in order to make sales.

When they can’t manage to get the sales, they hire copywriters.

Copywriting is a well-paid skill and while it’s not easy, you can develop your skills by rewriting copy or joining an online course.

How Much Can A Copywriter Make?

A good copywriter can make thousands per month. Some copywriters offer VIP days where they work on a project on a sprint.

Online Tutoring

Online tutoring is a great job for stay at home moms, but it doesn’t provide as much flexibility. For example, if you’re teaching English online you’ll have scheduled meetings with your students.

So, if your kids are in emergency mode, then, you won’t have as much flexibility with your schedule.

You can get started on platforms like iTalki

Depending on the platform chosen, you may be able to set your own rates. The average is usually between $15 and 25 per hour.

Data Entry

If you’re a fast typer and you already know how to use Excel, finding a data entry job could be great. You don’t need experience or a degree in order to land a remote data entry job.

Usually, the tasks are easy to do, but they may get repetitive.

How Much Can A Data Entry Specialist Make?

Remote positions for data entry are usually offering between $10 and 16 per hour. You can find several remote positions on Flexjobs.

Translation

If you speak fluently two languages, you could offer translation services. While some translation agencies require translators to use special software, you could also land translation gigs by offering human translations.

If you’re fluent in both languages, translating can be an easy thing to do.

How Much Can A Translator Make?

Usually, translators are paid per word. Depending on the languages and how complex they are, you can expect to make anything from $0.05 to 0.15 per word.

Coaching

If you already have expertise in a specific niche, you could coach others online. For example, a fitness instructor could design online programs for their students, a therapist could offer online sessions.

Online coaching has become a trend in the past few years, and now that everyone can work remotely, it’s becoming even more popular.

Offering coaching services online gives you flexibility, but it could be tricky when you have scheduled meetings.

How Much Can An Online Coach Make?

Coaches usually ask for premium prices and you can expect to make thousands of dollars per month once you’re established within your niche.

Consulting

Similar to coaching, consulting is popular for those who have expertise. For example, I’ve been working as an SEO consultant because I’m an SEO and I’m great at it.

It could be anything from accounting to marketing. Online businesses are willing to pay for consultants because they can’t know everything. Having the expertise from someone who knows what they’re doing can be of great help.

How Much Can An Online Consultant Make?

Depending on the expertise, this could differ. As an SEO consultant, I make between $3000 and 5000 per month.

Selling Digital Products

Selling digital products on your own websites, Amazon, or Etsy could also make you some money. Usually, selling digital products can be a side thing as part of a bigger project. For example, as a blogger, I also sell an online course and a few digital products.

Having a platform or an audience makes the whole process easier. You can learn more about digital products you can sell here.

How Much Can An Online Seller Make?

Online retailers can make anything from zero to thousands per month. Some popular YouTubers are making more than $10,000 per month. Their success on YouTube can help them make more because they already have an audience.

Graphic Design

Finally, the last online job for stay at home moms we’ll talk about today is graphic design. If you’re creative and already know a bit about design, this could be the perfect way to make money online.

You could design logos, graphics, and more with your design skills. You can learn more about graphic design with online courses, but one of the best ways to get better is to practice. When practicing, you can build a portfolio so you can showcase your skills when pitching for a gig.

How Much Can A Graphic Designer Make?

Depending on your level of experience and the type of designs you make, you could earn different incomes. For example, a new graphic designer may charge $50 for a logo while an experienced graphic designer could charge up to $700 for a logo.
