Chiang Mai continues to be a popular destination for digital nomads and for a reason. The rich and colorful culture of northern Thailand, delicious food and cheap prices have them coming back year after year.

Especially for new digital nomads, Chiang Mai is a great place to get started. Chiang Mai has a great community – you’ll find expats, international students, travelers, and digital nomads from all over the world. That said, meeting new people and making friends is easy.

Punspace Chiang Mai

The most popular coworking space for digital nomads in Chiang Mai is Punspace. It has three different locations and with a membership, you can access all of them. It’s like getting three spaces for the price of one.

The Nimman branch is located in the heart of the popular Nimman area surrounded by lots of trendy cafes and restaurants. Especially nice if you’re already staying in the nomad-friendly Nimman area.

The space itself isn’t the biggest of them but it has a great intimate feel to it and a lovely courtyard in front where you can get some fresh air and have a little break from work.

There’s a small kitchen on site as well as comfortable chairs. Although, 50% of the chairs are in poor condition. We’re hoping the management will change these in 2020.

Wiang Kaew (located in Chiang Mai old town) is the most social one. It also has a great yard where you can hang out and have a little break.

With the big trees on the yard and all the natural light flooding from the big windows, you really feel like you’re surrounded by nature. It’s a great place to get in the work-flow. They have two big rooms and one of them is actually a quiet zone which should ensure your productivity.

Tha Phae Gate has the biggest space. This one has a more open layout but even with big open space it’s still quite quiet and a good place to get focused. Tha Phae Gate is also located in the old town area. In my opinion, this is the nicest space, but it lacks social vibes. If you like to be productive, it might be a good fit for you.

With a membership, you get 24/7 access to all three locations, up to 2 devices to use on the wifi and great discounts on the meeting rooms. Monthly membership is 3,299THB and weekly 1,699THB.

You can also get a day pass for 289THB. With a day pass, you’re limited to the Mon-Sat 9 am-6 pm opening hours.

They host power lunches in all three locations and they are great opportunities to get to know the people you share a desk with.

Although, we recommend you to join the power lunch at Wiang Kaew since it’s going to give you more opportunities to meet fellow nomads. Lunches in both other spaces are very quiet and sometimes, they aren’t happening if there are not enough members.

Punspace also offers coliving in two locations in the Chiang Mai old town. You can choose either a private room at Moto Velo Cabin or a bunk-bed in a shared room at the Common hostel. Both locations are a quick walk away from the Wiang Kaew branch.

Hub53 Chiang Mai

Hub53 offers coworking and coliving in the same building. The atmosphere is very social so this could be a perfect fit for a solo nomad looking to connect and meet new people. Their community dinners and workshops are a great way to meet people!

Living on-site also allows you to have a flexible work schedule, after all, the coworking space is right there whenever you need it.

If combining living and working in the same building is, however, too much, Hub53 also offers condos and apartments for rent close by for a minimum of a month’s rent. Otherwise, you can also check the options on Airbnb for shorter stays.

At Hub53 you will have plenty of options to get some work done whether it’s on a shared hot desk or casually on a beanbag. And what’s a better way to relax than taking a quick nap at the nap room or get a massage in a massage chair? Or how about a fresh salad or a smoothie from the on-site salad bar Hubster and you’re ready to get back to work.

You also have a chance for co-learning at Hub53. During the weekend people can share their experiences and learn from others at different workshops. The collaborative and social environment at Hub53 inspires growth and learning.

Hub53 offers flexible membership deals and I’m sure you will find the perfect fit for you. The unlimited monthly membership is 3,299THB and allows you to access the coworking space 24/7.

You could also combine coworking with a wellness package and get access to yoga classes. They even offer hourly passes to the coworking space so you can pop in for just a few hours a day.

Or what if you prefer only working during the evening and at night? They have a package for that too!

Coco Kala Chiang Mai

Coco Kala is the newest addition to the Chiang Mai coworking scene. If you’re looking for that island life feeling in Chiang Mai, Coco Kala could be the perfect fit for you.

They only just opened in January 2020.  Coco Kala is a bit different from its competitors with its Bali style vibe and its pool.

Although it’s a new space, Coco Kala has pretty much everything you could wish for in a coworking space. For working you could choose to sit in a social room with others, a quiet working room with hot desks and computer chairs, or on a balcony with an overview of the pool or downstairs in the hustle of a cafe.

At the moment they only have computer chairs in the quiet room so for those of you who are concerned about the ergonomic working position, the choice is limited.

Coco Kala is a lot more than just a coworking space and you could be happy spending all day there. Imagine yourself chilling by the pool with a coconut in your hand or maybe trying out aqua yoga. The pool is definitely a nice addition to your workday but it also ups the stakes.

Coco Kala is definitely not the cheapest of the coworking spaces in Chiang Mai with its monthly membership being 7,500THB. The membership does, however, include one meal per day, high-speed wi-fi, pool access, yoga classes, discounts with their partners, coffee or tea, 2 guest passes, and one coconut per day.

Coco Kala is open from 9 am to 10 pm, so you early birds and night owls need to find another place to work outside these hours.

Their unique setting is something Chiang Mai lacked, and in the future, Coco Kala might just offer the best coworking in Chiang Mai.

Starwork Chiang Mai

Starwork is a coworking space located a bit further away from Nimman and the Old town, next to the highway. Starwork is a modern space designed to fit the needs of start-ups, freelancers and entrepreneurs.

It provides a great place for working with others on hot desks or on your own fixed seat. Being located a little bit further away from the Nimman area, where most digital nomads stay, this space is quite popular among the locals as well.

You can also rent a private office for your company. They have flexible short-term leases too. The coworking area can get a little loud sometimes with people from the surrounding offices using it as well for working.

Starwork offers, among other things, printing services, nap rooms, and meeting rooms. It’s located next to a cafe Amazon where, as a member, you can get one free drink per day.

If work is starting to get the best of you, at Starwork you can relax and zone out for a bit at the cute little library corner.

A monthly membership with 24-hour access is 2,990THB.

That’s it – these are the most popular options when it comes to coworking in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Note that there are more spaces available including plenty of cafés with good wifi for those who don’t like to pay to cowork.
